Higher Politics – Advice to parents and carers from staff
- Pupils should use the 20 and 12 mark essay templates in their essays folder on OneNote to create essay plans. They have an essay template for each essay they will need to plan.
- Pupils should make sure their essay plans include detailed descriptions and examples, plus analysis. For 20 mark essays, they should also plan introductions and detailed conclusions.
- Unit 1 – and the ideologies section in particular – was covered in June 2025 so students should make sure they have revised this section, especially if they joined the class later in the year.
- Pupils need to know the structure for the 8 mark compare question and 20 mark extent question found in paper 2 – they have practiced this in class and instructions are in the “skills” section of their OneNote.
- Practice questions should be done according to exam timings:

- 20 mark essays (40 minutes)
- 12 mark essays (25 minutes)
- 20 mark extent questions (55 minutes)
- 8 mark compare questions (20 minutes)
