
National 5 Design & Manufacture – Advice to parents and carers from staff
- Students currently working on Course Assessment Task consisting of:
- Design Folio worth 55 marks
- Practical Model worth 45 marks
- All elements must be completed and submitted by 2nd April
- Design Folio is externally assessed by QS and must be completed by the above date for uplift.
- Remember the department is available during lunchtimes if students require time to complete the folio section, workshop time may be available in negotiation with class teacher.
- Use Achieve and QS Past Paper service to help revise key topics in preparation for final exam.
- Question Paper worth 80 marks
- The @ScottishTekTok channel on YouTube has a range of excellent video resources for all CDT subjects.
- Students should take time to familiarise with Section 1 questions regarding the design and manufacture of an item that could potentially be made in a school workshop.
- Students should also be familiar with commercial manufacturing processes and the use of the design process in industry when answering questions from section 2.
Higher Design & Manufacture – Advice to parents and carers from staff
- Students are currently working on their Course Assessment Task consisting of:
- Design Assignment worth 90 marks.
- This must be fully completed and submitted by 2nd April to allow for uplift to QS for assessment.
- Use Achieve and QS Past Paper service to help revise key topics in preparation for final exam.
- Question Paper worth 80 marks
- The @ScottishTekTok channel on YouTube has a range of excellent video resources for all CDT subjects.
- Students should take time to familiarise with Section 1 questions regarding commercial manufacture of 2 similar products.
- Students should ensure sufficient depth and detail in expanded answer questions, being able to justify and use examples of the design process and design factors as part of 8 mark extended question.
- Remember, students should also revisit their prior/assumed knowledge from National 5 Design & Manufacture as part of their preparation for the final exam.
