English is a core subject that helps young people build strong skills in reading, writing, talking and listening so they can make sense of the world, communicate confidently and think critically. Through exploring a wide range of texts – stories, poems, films and information sources – pupils learn to understand others’ ideas and express their own clearly, supporting success across school and in life beyond the classroom.
